๐ด Playing a Card
The top card of the discard pile sets the current color and type. You must play a card that matches on at least one of these โ or play a Wild card.
- Same color โ always playable regardless of number or type
- Same number or type โ always playable regardless of color (e.g. any 7 on a 7, any Skip on a Skip)
- Wild card โ playable any time; you choose the new color after playing
- If you cannot or choose not to play, draw one card from the pile. If the drawn card is playable, you may play it immediately.
โก Special Cards
Action cards have immediate effects on the next player โ or on the whole table.
- Skip โ the next player in turn order loses their turn entirely
- Reverse โ the direction of play flips (clockwise โ counter-clockwise). With 2 players, acts like a Skip.
- Draw Two โ the next player must draw 2 cards and loses their turn
- Wild โ playable any time; you declare the new color for the next play
- Wild Draw Four โ the next player draws 4 cards and loses their turn, and you declare the new color. Only legal if you have no card matching the current color in your hand.
๐ข Calling "Wild Card!"
When you play down to your last card, you must immediately tap the Wild Card! button. This is the equivalent of calling "Uno!" โ it signals you're about to win.
- Tap "Wild Card!" the moment you drop to 1 card remaining
- If an opponent catches you before the next player starts their turn, you draw 2 penalty cards
- You are safe once the next player has begun their turn
- Forgetting is costly โ always tap immediately after your play
๐ข Winning
The first player to play their last card wins the round immediately. There is no scoring โ the goal is simply to empty your hand before anyone else.
- Playing your last card ends the game instantly
- Wild Draw Four cannot be your last card if played illegally (no matching color violation)
- The winner scores points in the app โ all other players score 0
Strategy & Tips
๐ง Winning at Wild Card
Wild Card rewards timing and attention. Knowing when to play action cards โ not just that you can โ is what separates good players from great ones.
- Save action cards for when they hurt most. A Skip or Draw Two played when an opponent is down to 1 card is far more valuable than burning it early.
- Control the color. After playing a Wild, pick the color you hold the most of. You force opponents to either match or draw, while you cruise through your hand.
- Watch card counts. The player with the fewest cards is your most dangerous opponent โ target them with Skip, Reverse, and Draw Two.
- Don't burn Wild Draw Four early. It's your most powerful card. Save it as a last-card play or to punish an opponent who's about to win.
- Reverse is underrated with 2 players. It functions as a Skip โ play it to immediately take another turn when you need to dump cards fast.
- Never forget "Wild Card!" Losing 2 cards when you were 1 away from winning is the most painful way to lose a game.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play Wild Draw Four on any card?
No. Wild Draw Four is only legal if you have no card in your hand that matches the current color. Playing it illegally when you do have a matching color is a violation โ though in casual play this is enforced on the honor system.
What happens if the draw pile runs out?
The discard pile (except the top card) is shuffled and becomes the new draw pile. The game continues without interruption.
Can I stack Draw Two cards?
No โ stacking is not used on Tricksy. When a Draw Two is played, the next player draws 2 and loses their turn, regardless of whether they hold a Draw Two themselves.
What if the first card flipped is a Wild?
It is returned to the deck and a new card is drawn to start the discard pile.
Is Wild Card gambling?
On Tricksy, no. All points are virtual scores with no monetary value. You cannot buy, sell, or exchange anything. Wild Card on Tricksy is purely for entertainment.
